Project Overview

The Product

Non-e-commerce web application for a college campus restaurant to provide menu items for customers to review at any time.

Duration

September 2015 to April 2024

The Problem

Customers have limited resources to match menu items with food allergens and food restrictions before, during, and after visiting the restaurant.

The Goal

Research

We conducted a field search by interviewing customers to enhance our understanding of customers needs, and what needed improvement.

Interviews

Below are conversations my manager and I had with customers while assisting at our restaurant's deli section from 2015 to 2020. During the extended research process, the campus restaurant had a description box for customers to provide feedback, and received limited responses. The restaurant transitioned to a phone number for customers to provide feedback via text and received increased responses. Additionally, my manager and I conducted in-person conversations with customers beginning in September 2015. These conversations led to live reactions from customers and reported improvements needed. The restaurant made improvements during this timeframe with conversations held and feedback via text. However, some updates were unmet due to the statewide restaurant shutdown in March 2020. Conversations are provided in a slideshow format below:

ABOUT

Connor is leaving campus for a one-hour-long road trip with his roommates to visit a cabin for the weekend. Connor has a portable fridge in his car to store food, but cannot find a local restaurant that provides dairy-free condiment options to place in a takeout container.

WANTS & NEEDS
  • Avoid stopping at a fast food restaurant during his road trip.

  • Storing condiment options on the side of the sandwich.

  • A simple food option to go with chips/crisps and a beverage.

GOALS
  • Build a sandwich for a road trip.

  • Explore multiple condiment options.

  • Sandwich satisfaction.

CHALLENGES
  • Lactose intolerant.

  • Worries about the condiment spoiling too soon.

  • Having limited condiment options to place in a takeout container.

Ideate

Upon our field search we found beneficial information to proceed with brainstorming, creating a site map, and creating a site flow.
